Leweston shortlisted for Sporting Achievement Award
Leweston School is thrilled to be shortlisted for the Independent Schools of the Year Sporting Achievement Award.
Organised by Independent School Parent magazine, the awards programme is designed to offer UK independent schools a platform to showcase their success stories and celebrate the student experiences they provide. Leweston previously won the Independent Pre-Prep category in 2018.
To be shortlisted Leweston had to demonstrate to the judges the impact that sport has on students throughout the school through the breadth of opportunity and participation, as well as the competitive achievements of its students. The judges are looking for evidence that a clear philosophy underpins the provision of sporting experience at the school and evidence of original thinking in the school’s approach to its sporting programme.
Leweston’s Director of Sport, Mrs Guy, said “We are delighted to have been short listed for this award particularly because it recognises the enthusiasm of all our pupils for sport and physical activity and their willingness to get involved and try new things.
Throughout the lockdown period the Leweston community continued to demonstrate this spirit. Pupils, staff and parents have contributed to the Daily Physical Challenges raising money with sponsored activities. We ensured that pupils could continue with their training through online PE lessons and sessions and some have even competed in online events winning medals in Global virtual competitions! Our Pentathlon athletes are in full training, including open water swimming at Weymouth and our Equestrian Team are back in the saddle preparing for competitions.
Leweston’s first Virtual Sports Day was a very fitting way to end the term for a community that is so committed to an active, healthy lifestyle and who have such a strong sense of team spirit!”
